The James River Soil Conservation District provides services to producers interested in including conservation practices into their daily operations in Dickey County.  The Soil Conservation District encourages and assists all producers to conserve their natural resources.  Working in cooperation with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, services are provided throughout the county.


The James River Soil Conservation District is comprised of five board members. Three members are elected by the general public to hold office for a term of six years.  Two members are appointed yearly to serve on the board.  Board members meet once a month at either 8 AM or 1 PM on the second Wednesday of each month.  Meetings are usually located in the conference room of the USDA building but due to COVID restrictions, may be at other locations. They are open to the public and updated meeting information can be found under the NEWS tab.

HELP WANTED - The James River SCD in Ellendale, ND, is hiring a full-time district operations manager.  Chosen applicant will be responsible for tree planting, installing weed barrier, creating seed mixes, coordinating district equipment and rental program, and other duties as assigned by board of supervisors.  Knowledge of trees, grasses, computers and mechanical ability are required.  Also must be self-motivated and have customer service skills. Heavy lifting (50 lbs) is required during the busy season.  Applicant will be working outdoors in all types of weather conditions with longer hours during the busy season.  A detailed list of duties can be obtained at the office.  Pay is depending on experience.
